An Update on Plight of Homabay County Employees
The plight of Homabay County employees takes a different turn after the Union issued a strike notice on 29th October 2018 following the delay in payment of salaries and other concerns over the terms and condition of employment.
On Friday 2nd November 2016, the workers representatives met the County CEC Hon. Nicholas K’Oriko CEC Finance, Economic Planning and Service Delivery over various issues and especially the lack of communication and delay in salaries.
The meeting did not yield any tangible results with the CEC citing lack of funds. The meeting was called following a Union strike notice dated 29th October 2018.
In the strike notice, the Union also cited complaints over the non-remittance of statutory deductions.

The delay in salaries at the County has been an ongoing concern, and is an almost textbook example, of how to destroy employee morale.
While some county employees received their September 2018 salaries on various dates from the 21st October. The last set of employees receiving their September salaries on 24th October 2018. Some casual cadre employees however continue to have outstanding salary payments. Notably, the bulk of the casual employees have salary arrears, some have outstanding payments of upto four months!
