BendAburu Alert ………..

Dear HomaBay Lives Matter Activists

This is a love letter I’ve felt an overwhelming need to write, and  repeatedly thank you for your – everyday – efforts. And as you continue to stand-up and share your voice, your vision, and your passion, the importance of your actions, and the strength of your values, exhibited by word and deed, have had a profound effect on me.

Take comfort in the knowledge, that in your choice and willingness to speak the truth, you are creating a new culture and path in HomaBay County [HBC], and ensures we remain awake through the great revolution. And as you continue to expose [the people in power] and lay bare how we-the-people of HomaBay County [HBC] are taken for granted. Those efforts have impressively stirred HBC people into an awareness that hasn’t always, if ever, been present.

You have made room for us to name a deeply painful truth. #HomaBayLivesMatter too, because as a county, we also have a right to self-determination and development like everyone else.

You have made the entire country, not the entire world see HBC. You see collaboration not as a way of working, but as the ONLY option.

Using your writing, your dance, your art, and your painting, your imagination, and your heart, your voice, and your hands you have changed people. You have helped change communities in HBC in the belief #HomaBayLivesMatter.

That collaboration is the ONLY WAY to birth new solutions for our Counties. Success is not about more money ~ howsoever acquired ~ but about a life of depth and meaning. Success is about development of our County. It’s about liberation of the hearts and minds of our people from external and internal oppression. Success is about leaving no one behind and showing the world what if we worked together in our Counties we can achieve. Success looks like a flourishing HomaBay County.

I see you doing all of this and I see you doing it alone. No one has ever really understood you or this path you are on until you found a community. Even as you stand alone, firmly and with the courage believing in your ability to change systems and communities in HomaBay and beyond.

You have made room for us to name a deeply painful truth. #HomaBayLivesMatter

Every day you ride the wave of possibility and some  days you get “worked” by life  –  dissected, discussed, and sometimes ridiculed. Yet you teach me that failure is not fatal. You get back up and you do the most holy thing that humans can ever do. You rebuild, restart, rethink, and recover.

You have made it very clear that the conviction that  #HomaBayLivesMatter is on an unstoppable surge. We await the Supreme Court verdict in the earnest belief the Court will recognize the supreme will of the people – in their verdict – because #HomaBayLivesMatter.

What I am trying to tell, however funblingly and inadequately, is the story of a gallant fight for HomaBay People, that should convey a relevance, a message – a lesson perhaps.

So I honor you – HomaBay Lives Matter Activists. I celebrate you. And, I thank you. Continue to be fearless. HomaBay County, Kenya, Africa and the world needs you for a better world……. I need you.

Because you are, I am.

We like other Counties have a right to development in this devolution era am cognizant of the fact that even semi arid areas of our country have made great leaps in agriculture thanks to devolution. My interest was heightened in the advent of devolution when the incumbent sighted Agricultural development as one of the main agenda in their program coming from karachuonyo (oluch kimira)was a God sent idea. You can imagine my disappointment on seeing the gradual collapse of such a noble project and many more. Need we ask for anything more than a change in leadership?
